Single clip of a bow segment lifting out of Fayette county to earn brief tornado warning due to Doppler indicated rotation on the leading edge. Much later after a long evening of shooting weather and nature across S IL, I stopped to do a few DSLR time lapses featuring showers pulsing on a lingering outflow boundary.

Mixed montage comprised of clips, stills, audio, DSLR time lapses and radar tour of this incredible storm as seen from my assorted vantage points in and around the Decatur/Macon County IL area. Though we didn't get the remarkable snowfall amounts like points north because our precipitation type was primarily granular, our official total of 7.0 inches was still enough to effectively shut down area travel. Significant icing occurred further south resulting in scattered power outages and treacherous roadways. Since I included the initial wave of freezing precipitation from the 31st, this piece could technically be considered as featuring two storms wrapped into one presentation. Radar sequences are timed to coincide with the scenes that they lead in and out of. It's safe to say that few in Illinois will forget where they were during this historic event.

Time lapse clips and still of three separate tornado warned supercells to traverse Sangamon County IL this day. Storms unfortunately appear more distant than preferred. Although my positioning was ideal when they were to the SW, they were moving slightly NNW so when they got to me, they were further away instead of closer. No complaints as structures were photogenic with the event topped off by a horizon stretching shelf cloud. Cells further off to the N would produce tornadoes in Menard and Mason counties.

Pictures and time lapse video of an incredible storm to produce two tail clouds in Christian County IL. It went on to earn severe warning in Macon County for large hail and damaging wind.

Clips and stills of the last in a series of significant supercells to drop through EC IL this day. Though not as impressive as the storm to precede this one which was tornado warned from Champaign County all the way into SW Indiana, this cell was highly photogenic and a worthwhile intercept. Watch for the spin up/gustnado along with other surprises.

DSLR time lapse of a non-typical January storm to produce strong winds, heavy rain and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

Montage of my disappointing day in missing some of the better storms due to lack of data access and communication. Wasn't a complete loss however and did manage a few worthwhile captures. For as much severe and tornadic weather was observed across the region, only one tornado was reported and that was near Waverly located in WSW IL.

Unusual feature on the SW flank of convective snow squalls to pass through the Central Illinois region this day.
